Overview

A midlands based food manufacturer required a solution that would provide email direct to the desktop, central storage/retrieval of documents and fast, secure internet access. In addition, remote access to the network and virtual links to other remote offices were key criteria. The business employs a number of staff but the total number of staff that utilized PC’s was approximately 50.

Solution

We recommended and successfully deployed a cutting edge dual processor Intel Xeon Server. This server was loaded with the latest Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 operating systems. In order to secure the site against virus incursion, Hobb Computer Services Ltd recommended and deployed Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition. The product was then configured to retrieve and push the virus definitions to each and every workstation daily.

A broadband service was commissioned and secured by a Sonicwall Firewall. The firewall was configured so that a secure site-to-site VPN tunnel was established. The remote office now connects to the server via this tunnel. Performance is boosted through the deployment of Microsoft Terminal Services.

In addition to a server, the client also took the opportunity to replace all desktop workstations. Network printing was configured for use and each workstation given access to multiple printers to allow for failover.

In order to reduce system downtime, all work was undertaken at the weekend with a Monday live date being successfully adhered to.
